WEST AMWELL — At its Jan. 23 meeting, the Township Committee continued to weigh the matter of putting Dumpsters for recyclables at the township’s public works complex.
”The committee is still considering the idea,” said township Clerk Lora Olsen. If Dumpsters are brought in, residents could drop their recyclables there.
OTHER Jan. 23 business included:
— A township dinner for the volunteer members of the township’s boards, committees and commissions may be held in March.
In the past, the dinner has been held at the West Amwell Firehouse and has been a pot-luck affair, to which each invitee brought a dish to share with others.
Members of the Planning Board, Environmental Commission and other such groups would be invited to attend.
— The committee has received a request from Hunterdon County that West Amwell send a representative to the county’s upcoming 300th anniversary celebration, which will be held in 2014, Ms. Olsen said.
The Hunterdon County Tricentennial Committee is chaired by Marcia Karrow, a former freeholder and state senator. For further information, email [email protected].
— The committee is considering, Ms. Olsen said, fueling its police vehicles at a county facility rather than in the township, as it does at present. The equipment at the county facility is more-up-to-date, officials said.
— The committee is working on having a large natural gas compressor, on Route 179, reassessed, Ms. Olsen said. Part of a large interstate network, the compressor is involved in bringing natural gas to this part of the country from Texas.
— The committee announced that the purchase of dog and cat licenses must be done by today (Jan. 31) at the latest.
— The committee decided no action was needed on a proposed ordinance — on the agenda for introduction that night — that would have appropriated money for filing cabinets and other office equipment.
The proposed measure was pulled from the agenda because money for the cabinets and equipment was found to be available under an already-adopted ordinance, Ms. Olsen said.
The municipal offices will be closed Feb. 18 for President’s Day.
