The School District honored Board of Education members Monday night as part of the State’s School Board Recognition Program.
”Let’s hear it for the heroes of South Brunswick. Please join me and let’s hear it for the members of the Board of Education” read part of an essay presented by Ananya Swaminathan, an eighth grade student in the Chi Unit at Crossroads South Middle School.
Representatives from each of the three school levels within the district made presentations to the board.
Bonnie Capes, Principal at Cambridge School in Kendall Park represented the elementary school students , faculty, and administrators.
Ms. Capes presentation was entitled “Inspiring Actions” which included a video presentation, gifts to the members and donations made to the “Gifts from the Seas” program that has become a district wide program this year.
Each board member (including former member Martin Abshutz) was presented with a seashell decorated by the elementary school students. Two student representatives from both Crossroads North and South presented two essays on Leadership and Service and linked their opinions to the skills and service that Board members have shown them.
”We have the most sophisticated educational system in the State of New Jersey in this district thanks to the Board of Education in our district and they (the board) never fail to make the right choice,” according to the essay presented by Keerthana Bulusu, a seventh grader in the Kappa Unit at Crossroads North Middle School.
The high school community was represented by Suraj Muddasani, President of the Dead Presidents Society at the high school.
Quotations from United States presidents, including current President Barack Obama, were framed by Ben Atwater and presented to each Board member.
”We try very hard to serve this community as best as we can. Volunteering means more to me than everything except my family,” said Board President Dr. Stephen Parker. “I amplify what all the students and administrators have said during their presentations this evening, and I consider it a great honor to serve our community both as a board member and as it’s president.”
