Princeton Academy of the Sacred Heart announces the launch of “Building for Our Boys, A Campaign for Princeton Academy’s Future,” a capital campaign to raise $11 million to renovate the academic buildings on the school’s 45 acre campus. Construction began in earnest last summer when a large portion of the interior was gutted, and geothermal wells were installed to provide an alternative source of energy. The majority of the renovation will be completed this summer, with the balance completed in its entirety this fall.
At a private reception for parents and friends of the Academy on February 2nd, at The Bedens Brook Club in Skillman, NJ, members of the Board of Trustees, along with Headmaster Olen Kalkus, proudly announced they were more than half way to goal thanks, in large part, to the philanthropy of a large gift from an anonymous donor.
“I am pleased to share that our campaign has raised more than $7 million,” said Olen Kalkus, Founding Headmaster. “ While there is much work ahead, I believe our school community will rise to the occasion. Everything that happens at Princeton Academy is due to the strength and cohesiveness of our community: we attract and retain excellent faculty and staff because our environment is stimulating and supportive; we attract new boys and their families every year because of the welcoming environment created by our existing families.”
The renovation—which began in the summer of 2012—will include new academic learning spaces to include: a state-of-the-art science wing, 10 new classrooms, new junior kindergarten and kindergarten suites, and collaborative spaces for lower and middle school students. The renovation will also include new music classrooms, an academic enrichment center, a technology lab, infirmary, and administrative offices.
“The completion of this extensive renovation will give Princeton Academy a 21st century facility that will match the outstanding curriculum, programs and faculty already in place," said Alyson Landers, Campaign Chair, and member of the Board of Trustees.
All of the building and renovation projects will reinforce Princeton Academy’s commitment to environmentally responsible and sustainable design. The project includes features such as a new geothermal heating and cooling system, skylights for improved natural light, and state-of-the-art insulation and electrical fixtures. These features when combined with plans to add on-site solar energy will create an opportunity to dramatically reduce the School’s energy consumption requirements.
“We are thrilled to be able to provide our students and faculty with the infrastructure appropriate for 21st Century learning,” said Chris Schade, Chair of the Board of Trustees. “Starting with the benevolence of a dedicated community, it is our committed goal to Build for our Boys the best environment to promote strong values with educational and athletic excellence.”
