Township residents must have been satisfied with Township Council, because none of the half-dozen or so members in the audience Tuesday night took advantage of the two opportunities for public comment at the meeting.
Township Council’s meeting this week was the first since an ordinance was approved that reorganized its agenda to permit two “public participation” segments one at the beginning of the meeting and a second chance toward the end of the meeting.
The Township Council agenda had always allowed for “public participation” early in the meeting, and again when a public hearing had been set for a bid award or on an ordinance that was up for final approval. Comments were made prior to the council’s vote.
But in response to months of prodding by some residents for more opportunities to comment at the meetings, Township Council agreed to include a second “public participation” item on the agenda. It follows the manager’s report, the attorney’s report and new and old business.
During public participation, residents may ask questions of Township Council or comment on issues of concern to them. They may offer advice to Township Council, or suggest that it reconsider its position on an issue.
In other business Tuesday, Township Council appointed Zoning Board of Adjustment member Frank Scangarella, who holds the alternate no. 1 position, to fill the unexpired term of former Zoning Board of Adjustment member Stephen Brame. The term expires in December 2016.
Last month, Mr. Brame was chosen by Township Council to fill the unexpired term of former Township Councilman Greg Puliti, who resigned in December 2012. The four-year term expires in December.
