Expert advice, new products will be featured at home show

Today’s homeowners put a premium on efficiency and comfort, according to a newly released survey conducted by Better Homes and Gardens. The latest products and techniques to achieve those ideals will be showcased at the 2013 Garden State Home Show, scheduled for Feb. 8-10 at the Garden State Exhibit Center, Somerset.

The 24th annual home show, among the state’s oldest and largest, offers one-stop shopping for everything consumers need to make old homes like new, add desirable features to indoor and outdoor living spaces, and upgrade to money-saving, high-efficiency home systems, according to event organizers.

The nearly 150 displays will feature bath products, kitchen cabinets, stone and tile, closet and garage storage systems, exterior siding, pools and spas, sunrooms and more.

The exhibits are staffed by professionals ready to talk face-to-face with homeowners. “Many people think they can do their shopping online, but finding what you like is only half the battle,” said exhibitor Anthony Vanario, owner of Richmond Tile and Bath in Staten Island. “When they run into installation problems or find they didn’t know about newer and more durable products, they come to us. Too often it’s too late.”

Another attraction is the array of companies offering know-how for unique finishing touches that make a home or outdoor retreat stand out from the ordinary. Also, homeowners planning a home upgrade in the coming year will find help, inspiration, and a bit of fun at the home show.

Those who are already living their dreams through popular HGTV programs will have a chance to get an insider’s view of the newest show to premiere on the channel.

Realtor Kristen Cook, who appears with host Jason Abrams on “Scoring the Deal,” will appear at the home show from 1 to 3 p.m. Feb. 7 and 8.

Show hours are 1 to 8 p.m. Feb. 8; 11 to

8 p.m. Feb. 9; and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 10 at the exhibit center, 50 Atrium Drive.

Admission is $10 for adults, free for children 17 and younger and $8 for seniors on Feb. 8 only. For tickets and more information, call 800-332-3976 or visit macevents.com.
