RED BANK — On most mornings, Larry Jackson can be found at Lunch Break in Red Bank by 7:30 a.m.
Jackson, a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Holmdel, has volunteered at Lunch Break for more than 25 years.
On Jan. 24, he presented a donation of $1,000 from Good Shepherd Church to Lunch Break.
Located on Drs. James Parker Boulevard, the soup kitchen serves hot meals six days a week — totaling 56,000 meals served in 2012 — and delivers meals to shut-ins.
That means a lot of food is required for the meals served at the soup kitchen each day and someone must pick up donations.
Jackson checks with the cook and the executive director to determine special food needs for the day, then drives to various stores to collect perishable donations such as deli salads or breads.
