BORDENTOWN TOWNSHIP — The Bordentown Regional High School community has a couple new reasons to be very proud of its student-athletes. Two of the school’s soccer players, one boy and one girl, have earned the title of High School All-Americans.
Senior forward Alexis McTamney put together an incredible season to cap off a phenomenal career at BRHS. She broke the school’s all-time scoring record when she netted three goals in a game in October.
According to New Jersey media, McTamney finished the season with a state-leading 58 goals, bringing her career total to 111.
The statistics speak for themselves. McTamney scored at least one goal in 21 of the team’s 24 games. She has 18 multi-goal games, including four games in which she had four goals.
McTamney will not hesitate to let everyone know where all of her success derives.
”I worked really hard all four years,” McTamney said. “I guess hard work really does pay off.”
Perhaps her most impressive quality is not in the numbers and the awards, but rather her selfless personality.
”It’s always how the team does, not just how she does,” said Alexis’ mother, Lisa McTamney. “It’s never about her.”
When the recipients for girls soccer awards were being chosen however, it was all about her. In addition to being named an All-American, McTamney was named to the SJSCAA first team, the NJSCAA first team, and was named the Courier Post and Burlington County Times Player of the Year.
To find the Scotties’ other All-American, one would not have to travel very far from the McTamney home. In fact, the Hudik family, including award-winning son Brandon, live just across the street from the McTamney household.
Senior defender Brandon Hudik was equally as impressive as McTamney this year. While he did not put up the same eye-popping statistics, mainly because of the position he plays, Hudik impressed in other aspects. He was named the top male scholar-athlete by the NSCAA.
”He has been focused from the get-go,” said Lisa Hudik, Brandon’s mother. “He has done a great job of keeping his goals in front of him as he has navigated high school.”
Like McTamney, Hudik shares that same selfless attitude.
”I think all of the people supporting me have had just as much impact recently as any of the work I’ve put in,” Hudik said. “My parents, grandparents, Coach (Michael) Brennan and Coach (Joe) Sprague have supported both me and Lex — you wouldn’t believe (it).”
Hudik was also named to the SJSCAA and NJSCAA first teams, as well as the South Jersey Defender of the Year and Burlington County Times Player of the Year.
As far as the futures of these soccer stars go, McTamney has committed to Monmouth University, where she will continue her soccer career.
Hudik on the other hand is pursuing a degree in engineering and has not yet committed to a school or even to continuing his soccer career.
”I am still waiting to hear back from many of the schools I applied to,” Hudik said. “So, I’m keeping my fingers crossed.”
One thing is for sure, Bordentown Regional High School will certainly miss these two outstanding student athletes.
