The Edison Chamber of Commerce was honored again this year by being asked to host the annual State of the Township address by Mayor Antonia Ricigliano. We extend accolades to the co-host, Pines Manor, for their superb accommodations. Many local companies were sponsors of the event to show their support of our mayor and her administration. The list of supporters can be viewed on EdisonChamber.com.
When Mayor Ricigliano gave her fourth State of the Township address last week, she proudly stated that some of her goals were met and the others were in progress. The common theme was that Edison needed changes, and many of those changes have been made. She said some changes were unpopular, but were effective in reaching her goal to make Edison a stronger community. During her 45-minute talk, Mayor Ricigliano covered many topics, including the budget, reduced staff, police and firemen, litigation, renovated police headquarters, the Coplogic online police-reporting system, disposal of firearms, police presence and a private post office in the north end of town, and hiring previously volunteer firemen.
Mayor Ricigliano acknowledged several new Edison companies providing new jobs and ratables — IO Data Center, Sun- Durance Energy, Eos, Colavita USA, Rebounderz, Monster Mini Golf and Garden State Tennis Center. She boasted about the expansion at JFK Medical Center, Thomas Edison Museum and the YMCA.
Mayor Ricigliano graciously recognized many individuals in the audience for their unselfish civic contributions during the Hurricane Sandy recovery, including many of her department heads, Middlesex County College, Raritan Valley Baptist Church, Edison schools and libraries, the Lions Club and the Greenway Trail people, for their environmental efforts.
The Edison Chamber of Commerce is proud of its close working relationship with Mayor Ricigliano and her administration. We have partnered on several occasions, including Jumpstarting New Jersey’s Economy, New Jersey Comeback, Hurricane Sandy Recovery Business Forum, Economic Development and Public Policy Committee, advocating for Transit Village development, touring the Southern Baptist Hurricane Sandy Disaster Relief Headquarters and at Edison Family Day.
