The township and the Office of Emergency Management will utilize a new communications service effective Feb. 12, that allows local government to send important alerts and advisories directly to residents using the latest cell phone and web technology.
This service powered by Nixle allows the townsip to create, publish and deliver messages to subscribers instantly via text message and email. Notifications can also be accessed online at Nixle’s website: www.nixle.com. The service is free, according to an announcement on the township website.
Residents of Robbinsville and Windsor can immediately begin receiving pertinent information via text message, email and the web simply by texting the ZIP code 08691 in the body of the message to 888777. Residents can register at www.nixle.com, also. According to the announcement, the township website, www.robbinsville-twp.org, also will be equipped with a registration widget in the coming weeks as an added convenience.
According to the announcement all cell phone numbers are safe and secured in the Nixle server and the company assures the public it does not sell, or otherwise provide this information to any third party. Nixle will be especially useful in the event of a power outage, the announcement stated.
Web links that include photos and maps of an affected area also can be provided for residents using smart phones. Nixle messages are sent specifically to residents registered within a ¼ mile radius, giving them the opportunity to receive trustworthy information relevant only to their neighborhood. Subscribers can also choose the way in which alerts are received, whether it is by email, text message, or via the Internet.
