SOUTH BRUNSWICK: Project Graduation holds Prom fashion show

By Maria Riegel, Special Writer
South Brunswick High School Project Graduation held its annual Prom Preview Fashion Show 7p.m. to 9 p.m. Feb. 1.
All money raised from the $10 admission tickets went to Project Graduation, which is an organization that allows high school graduates “celebrate their graduation with their peers in a safe, supervised, tobacco, substance and alcohol free atmosphere” according to South Brunswick District website.
According to Project Graduation member Jean Del Piano, there were a total of 36 models this year including 20 girls and 16 boys. Only junior and senior SBHS students were eligible to be models. She said that a total of $2, 514 was raised from the Prom Preview Fashion Show.
Both female and male models were given the opportunity to select their own dresses and tuxes.
”The dresses were from KiKi D’s and the tuxes were from Chaz MaTazz,” Ms. Del Piano said.
KiKi D’s is a prom dress shop located in Princeton. Chaz MaTazz Formalwear is located in the Princeton Market Fair.
”Appointments were made for the girls (at KiKi D’s), and Ms. (Jane) Giannetto and myself took turns driving the girls to the shop,” Ms. Del Piano said. “We went in groups of five so there was no overcrowding in the store which was open for business”
However, the boys were able to pick up the tuxes on their own free time up to three weeks prior to the fashion show.
In addition to KiKi D’s and Chaz MaTazz offering their formal wear, several other businesses offered modeling extras according to Ms. Del Piano.
Ms. Del Piano said that Hawaiian Bronze located in South Brunswick Square Mall offered free spray tans and Sparks Hair Design located in New Brunswick, had seven stylists doing hair for both, boys and girls as well as the girls’ makeup. She also said that Monday Morning Flowers and Balloon Company located in Princeton donated corsages, wristlets, bouquets and other various flower arrangements.
Furthermore, there were also over 36 raffle prizes including gift cards from local restaurants, pizzerias, and car washes. Jewelry was also raffled in addition to a basket of Coty Fragrances. Finally two tickets to both the junior and senior prom were raffled.
”Ms. Giannetto and I will run the event again next year,” Ms. Del Piano said.
