Become political to bring about change

The Jan. 17 issue of the Independent quoted a Hazlet resident as saying, “Look at this town … and Union Beach, Belford, Port Monmouth … so many of these people still don’t even have heat and hot water. Why? Because the government hasn’t helped them yet. Why isn’t the government helping? I don’t know. I’m not a political person.”

I’ll tell you why. It’s because the tax-and-spend Democrats are outnumbered by reduce-government Republicans. A weak government that doesn’t tax and spend is powerless to help. If you want to change that and want a government that has the resources to help when you need help, you have to become a political person.

I’m not saying the Democrats are right and the Republicans are wrong. I’m just saying that there has to be a balance, and whatever the balance turns out to be, some people will like it and some won’t. If you don’t like it, you have to either take it as it is or learn how to change it.
