Sam S. Shahinian

Mr. Shahinian, 86, of Monroe, died Jan 27, 2013, in Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge division. He began his career as a biochemist, and with the help of his wife, he established the S&K Animal Farm, Monroe, which provided research animals to local laboratories. He then had a more than 30-year career with Carter Wallace Co., Cranbury, retiring in 1990. He served as a member and president of the Monroe Township Planning Board and as a member of the Township Council. He was predeceased by a daughter, Rose Marie David; a grandson, Sarkis Shahinian; a brother, Jack; and a son-in-law, Bob Carroll. Surviving are his wife, Karoline F. Turke Shahinian; four sons, Michael, and his wife, Doris, of Toms River, Sarkis, and his significant other, Jerlyn Greulich, of York, S.C., Margos, and his significant other, Bonnie Granitsky, of Helmetta, and Karl of Monroe; three daughters, Patricia Carroll, Karoline Breese, and her husband, Ken, and Jennifer Shahinian, and her significant other, Ed Kulesa, all of Monroe; two sisters, Mary Stapanian of Cincinnati, and Alice Bajaksouzian, and her husband, Simon, of Broadview Heights, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. A prayer service was offered at M. David DeMarco Funeral Home, Monroe.
