MANVILLE: Kornacivich, Barras win ‘Scout of Year’ awards

   Accomplishments of Cub Scouts from Pack 193 and Boy Scouts from Troop 193 were honored Sunday at the annual Blue & Gold dinner at the Manville VFW.
   Hunter Kornacivich received the Cub Scout of the Year award while Nicholas Barras was the Boy Scout of the Year. Both received a watch and will have their names added to the plaque displayed at the VFW.
   Borough Council President Ed Komoroski spoke.
   ”I want to thank the men and women of the Scouting program for giving up so much of their personal time to keep this program running and offering the youth of Manville such a great opportunity to be a part of such a fantastic organization,” he said.
   Mr. Komoroski thanked the VFW for being sponsor of the pack and troop and encouraged the Scouts.
   ”Keep up the great work and please don’t ever give up on a commitment to improve yourself,” he said. “For the young men moving up today, congratulations. You have achieved and accomplished a great hurdle in the Scouting program. As you get older and may change some of your interests, please don’t give up on Scouting. You will remember some of the best times of your life. Set a goal to get that Eagle badge. You will never regret it.”
   Scoutmaster Jim Kelly and Cubmaster Bruce Hixson presented awards.
   The Cub Scouts were presented with rank advancements. Raymond Azar, Austin Chaya, Anthony Cox, Matthew Mullins, Justin Petti received the Tiger rank.
   Wolf advancement beads were presented to Anthony Barras, Nathaniel Bezick, Joshua Carbone, James Lee and Ethan Mullins.
   Wyatt Hamilton, Todd Peterson, Jacob Reilly, Michael Somers and Bryan Spiers received Bear advancement beads. Hunter Kornacivich received the Webelos rank.
   Pinewood Derby car winners received trophies. Jonathan Spiers took first Place, Justin Petti second and Cole Chapkowski third.
   The Sailboat Regatta winners received trophies. First place went to Anthony Barras, second to Tim Franks and Jonathan Spiers was third.
   Webelos activity pins were presented. Cole Chapkowski earned Athlete, Engineer, Handyman, Naturalist, Readyman, Scholar, Showman and Traveler.
   Logan Chaya earned Athlete, Readyman, Scholar and Showman. Timothy Franks earned Athlete, Handyman, Outdoorsman, Readyman, Scholar and Showman. Hunter Kornacivich received Athlete, Citizen, Fitness, Handyman, Readyman, Scholar and Showman.
   Nicholas Mattei earned Athlete, Scholar, Showman and Traveler. Scott McGinn earned Athlete, Fitness, Handyman, Readyman, Scholar and Showman. Jalen Petersen earned Athlete, Handyman, Readyman, Scholar and Showman. Jonathan Spiers earned Athlete, Handyman, Readyman, Scholar and Showman.
   The Arrow of Light, which is the highest rank in Cub Scouting, was presented to Cole Chapkowski, Logan Chaya, Timothy Franks, Nicholas Mattei, Scott McGinn, Jalen Petersen and Jonathan Spiers.
   The boys crossed the bridge, leaving Cub Scouting and joining Mr. Kelly and the scouts of Troop 193. The new Scouts were dressed in the Boy Scout neckerchief, hat and slide by their new troopmates and received the Boy Scout handbook. Cubmaster Nole Chapkowski crossed the bridge to join his charges in the Boy Scout troop.

   Matthew Drobny: First Class Rank, Camping, Climbing, Wilderness Survival;
   Matthew Fiduk: Scout Rank, Indian Lore, Swimming;
   Nikolas Lazos: Environmental Science;
   Johe Fabricio Maymuire: Scout Rank;
   Matthew Miller: Citizenship in the Community, Citizenship in the World, Communications, Personal Fitness, Family Life, and Personal Management;
   Christopher James Pietrzyk: Scout;
   Danny Shubiak: First Class Rank, Second Class Rank, and Environmental Science; and
   Michael Zangara: Camping.
