A historic photo of the World Trade Center towers with a Marine l-17 airplane wing in the foreground taken two weeks before the Twin Towers were attacked on Sept. 11, 2001 will be sold to the highest bidder on Saturday, Feb. 23, at a reception and fund-raising auction hosted by Operation Shoebox New Jersey at The Wine Room, 2 John St., Bound Brook.
The photo was taken by Ret. Marine Capt. Ben R. Cascio from a restored 1951 Marine l-17, a four-passenger, single engine propeller-driven low wing bubble canopy aircraft used by the Marine Corps in Korea and the early years of the Vietnam war.
Mr. Cascio, awarded the Silver Star for gallantry during the Vietnam War, will attend the dinner and detail the circumstances of the flight on which he recorded the image.
