HIGHTSTOWN: Historical Society to host event of ‘delights’

The Hightstown East Windsor Historical Society is holding a Cheesecake and Wine Tasting Event at the Hightstown Diner, Saturday, Feb. 23, at 8 p.m.
Wines from Cream Ridge Winery will be matched by cheesecake delights, a Hightstown Diner specialty. Javaberry, Cream Ridge Winery’s new blackberry, chocolate and espresso wine will be featured, along with Muscato Amabile, Cabernet Franc, Black Currant and Almond Berry wines.
All will be available for tasting as well as by the glass or bottle. There will also be a silent auction featuring artwork by several local artists. The event is a fundraiser for the Ely House, the Historical Society’s museum, a press release from the organization said.
Built circa 1845, the Ely House was purchased by the HEWHS in 1971 and has been maintained by the society since then.
The house displays antique furnishings from local families in its parlors, living room, dining room, bedrooms and the Freight Station. It is filled with objects of interest to anyone wishing to discover more about Hightstown’s past. There is also a library in the Freight Station which holds a collection of archives featuring historic Hightstown and East Windsor treasures.
Anyone wishing to visit or arrange a tour may contact Bob Patten, 609-448-6352. Tickets for the Wine and Cheesecake Tasting may be purchased at the Hightstown Diner.
