FREEHOLD — The executive board of the Freehold Rotary Club announced that the organization has donated $1,000 to a Freehold family whose home was badly damaged by superstorm Sandy.
A tree crashed through the roof of the Lincoln Place home of Suzanne and Kevin Crandall at the height of the Oct. 29 storm, destroying most of the second floor. The family is living elsewhere until a decision is made about repairs to their home, according to a press release.
“The plight of the Crandalls and their three children came to the club’s attention several weeks ago after several community organizations held a fundraiser to assist the family,” Freehold Rotary Club President Peter Jeffery said. “As soon as we heard of their suffering we wanted to help. Rotary is about community service at the local, regional and international levels. We hope our contribution will ease their loss.”
The Latino Coalition Foundation and the Graeme Preston Foundation for Life held a fundraiser for the Crandalls and two other families in December at the First Presbyterian Church, Freehold.
The Freehold Rotary Club, founded in 1929, meets every Tuesday at 12:15 p.m. at Basile’s, Park Avenue, Freehold. For more information, visit http://freeholdrotary.org.
