State Library Author Talk to Feature David Emerson as The Shannachie of Glendunbun Ballybeg

By Gary Cooper
On Wednesday, March 20, from noon to 1 p.m., the New Jersey State Library will present a free lunch-time program, The Shannachie of Glendunbun Ballybeg with David Emerson of History on the Hoof.
A Shannachie is a storyteller. The wit and wisdom, humor and horror, and hubris and humanity of a people are found in their traditional stories. Compelling storyteller David Emerson retells (and embroiders) the colorful and ancient tales of Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Cornwall in a presentation that, at times, will warm the heart and, at other times, will chill it.
David Emerson makes his living by being a character. For over 25 years, David has worked at living history museums and as an independent storyteller, teaching history through the eyes of a “person of the past.” He is a veteran of Colonial Williamsburg, Plimoth Plantation, Morristown National Historical Park and the Old Barracks Museum. Emerson’s academic credentials include graduate study at the College of William and Mary, and he studied at Oxford as an undergraduate. He is a much requested speaker with the New Jersey Council for the Humanities.
All are welcome to this program. A RSVP is appreciated. To indicate attendance at this event contact Cindy Warrick at [email protected] or 609-278-2640 ext. 172.
