LAMBERTVILLE: Noise amendment set for hearing in March

By John Tredrea, Special Writer
LAMBERTVILLE — A proposed city ordinance, introduced at the Feb. 19 council meeting, would amend the city’s existing noise ordinance by requiring individuals, companies and utility firms to wait until 9 a.m. Sunday to use vehicles and equipment involved in the construction or demolition of buildings, roads and structures.
The measure is expected to be on the agenda of the council’s March meeting for a public hearing and adoption vote.
If adopted as expected, the proposed ordinance would amend the city’s noise code — which currently allows such work to begin at 7 a.m. on Sundays— by prohibiting the work until 9 a.m., except in the case of emergencies.
An emergency would have to be formally declared by the mayor, police director or director of the city’s Office of Emergency Management.
Snow plowing is exempt from the proposed ordinance.
In other business at the Feb. 19 meeting, council passed a resolution appointing Lester Myers to the post of city recycling coordinator.
Mr. Myers is head of the city’s Department of Public Works.
Another resolution authorizes Mayor David Del Vecchio and city Clerk Cindy Ege to sign an interlocal agreement on solid waste disposal with the Pollution Control Financing Authority of Warren County.
Also passed was a resolution confirming the city’s continuing participation this year in the Governor’s Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse, through the Municipal Alliance.
A nationwide organization with many local chapters, including one in nearby Hopewell Valley, the Municipal Alliance works to discourage substance abuse by young people. The Alliance works with government agencies, school districts and other organizations toward that goal.
Also passed was a resolution authorizing the mayor and city clerk “to take the necessary steps to becoming a participating municipality in Hunterdon County’s Hazard Mitigation Plan.
Applications for two social affairs permits were approved by resolution at the Feb. 19 meeting.
Police director Bruce Cocuzza and Ms. Ege are authorized to sign the permits under the resolutions.
St. John the Evangelist Church is to receive a permit for a food and wine event on April 20, from 6 p.m.-midnight.
The Institute for Nursing is to receive a permit for an event scheduled for May 15. That event was originally scheduled for Nov. 14, 2012, but needed to be rescheduled.
