(Edison, March 4th, 2013)— The Edison Visionary Lions Club is celebrating International Women’s Day on March 16, 2013 at North Brunswick High School. A symposium on “Entrepreneurship for Women” will be followed by New Jersey public premiere of critically acclaimed documentary “It’s a Girl” and some entertainment.
Edison visionary lions have always focused on families and children. They realize the importance of rights for women in families and society in general. International Women’s Day celebration is an honest attempt to initiate a conversation.
The symposium is open to the registered participants and will start at 4:00 PM. Speakers include prominent entrepreneurs and policy makers. During the symposium, attendees are invited to participate in discussions regarding “entrepreneurship among women”. The event will also showcase involvement of women is International Volunteering.
Adapting United Nations theme, “A promise is a promise: Time for action to end violence against women”, Edison Visionary Lions will be premiering a critically acclaimed documentary “It’s a Girl”. The presentation will start at 6:30 PM. This documentary raises several questions about social practices and encourages us to act. In India, China and many other parts of the world today, girls are killed, aborted and abandoned simply because they are girls. The United Nations estimates as many as 200 million girls are missing in the world today because of this so-called “gendercide.” Shot on location in India and China, It’s a Girl reveals the issue. It asks why this is happening, and why so little is being done to save girls and women. Global experts and grassroots activists put the stories in context and advocate different paths towards change.
Edison Visionary Lions will be celebrating success of women and appreciating their effort in the progress of humanity. There will be entertainment and food stalls.
Lions club takes pride in spending 100% of the raised funds for their service activities. Edison Visionary Lions have supported children victims of Woodbridge apartment fire, entertained individuals with special needs and helped victims of super storm Sandy along with many other community service projects. Part of the proceeds from this event will go to the family of the brutal rape victim, who has become a symbol of safety for women.
Suggested donations for attending the event is $10. Tickets can be purchased online using following link: https://donations.sulekha.com/donate-to_donate-to-edison-visionary-lions-club_1118
