EAST WINDSOR – Jose L. Gonzalez, 20, of Hamilton, was charged with driving while intoxicated after, according to police, his red 1995 Nissan hit a tree March 2 on Dutch Neck Road.
Upon the arrival of township police it was determined that a sole Nissan was involved in the incident at approximately 4:26 a.m. The impact caused the driver to sustain non-life threatening injuries, police stated.
Preliminary investigation revealed Mr. Gonzalez was traveling west on Dutch Neck Road and for unknown reasons the vehicle left the roadway near the intersection of Wilmor Drive and struck a tree, police said.
Police said while conducting the initial investigation, officers detected signs of intoxication of the driver. The driver was extricated from the vehicle by members of the East Windsor Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 with the assistance of members of the East Windsor Volunteer Rescue Squad District 1.
Mr. Gonzalez was then transported to an area hospital for evaluation and treatment of his injuries, police stated.
In addition to the DWI charge, Mr. Gonzalez was charged with reckless driving and careless driving, failure to maintain lane and failure to change address with New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission.
