BORDENTOWN TOWNSHIP — Brandon Hudik, a resident, was recognized as an All-America and Male Scholar Athlete for the entire country by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America last year and received a local proclamation March 4.
The proclamation notes the achievements of the senior, who attends Bordentown Regional High School, and recognizes Brandon as an “outstanding citizen.”
”We hear a lot of negative things about our young people, and I think it’s good when we have something really good to report on one of our own members of our township and students,” Mayor Jim Cann said at the March 4 Township Committee meeting.
The NCAA is the nationally recognized leader in naming All-America soccer players.
”These players are nominated to receive richly deserved recognition in the sport performance, and Brandon Hudik has received this honor,” reads the proclamation.
Brandon received the honor with only 88 other All-America soccer players across the country and was one of only 33 others in the country to receive the Male Scholar Athlete recognition. He was ranked first among those 33 Male Scholar Athletes.
Brandon also plays basketball and is in the high school’s band and theater programs. He is ranked first in his class academically, achieving a 4.24 grade point average.
Brandon, 18, said he hopes to go to an Ivy League school once he graduates from Bordentown. He said he’s a little nervous about his next steps, but excited at the same time and attributed his success to the support he has received from his family.
”There have been times when I wanted to quit, and they just keep pushing me,” Brandon said. “I think that’s one of the biggest parts of it.”
He is looking to pursue environmental or biomedical engineering and hopes his job gives him a chance to travel.
Brandon continued his dominance on the soccer field in the Bordentown Scotties’ playoff games in Indianapolis, Indiana, on Jan. 19 when he scored two goals and assisted another five.
”Through his achievements in soccer and scholastically he, stands as an exemplar and credit to his team and school, his community, his county, his state as well as his family and friends,” Mayor Cann said as he read from the resolution.
Brandon lives in Bordentown Township with his siblings, Brianna, Brady and Brielle, and his parents, Lisa and Jim.
