Emerson College student Jasmyn Jacob of Colts Neck, NJ has announced her first business venture that will be competing in the Emerson Experience in Entrepreneurship (E3) exposition. Her business, Velvet Rope (www.velvetropenyc.com), is an online social scene that allows users to build their own thriving social life.
The online community provides a hub for those social seekers looking to not only discover and buy tickets to events, but also view coverage of events, latest news, happenings and trends. Velvet Rope invites event creators to build their own profiles, post and sell tickets to their social event right on the site. The initial site phase will focus on the New York Metropolitan area.
Jacob’s business will compete at the E3 Expo, which is the capstone event of the Entrepreneurial Studies Program. Each year, students develop their new business venture and present their idea to a room full of potential investors. The students are competing for a combined $20,000 in cash and prizes to get their companies started.
The E3 program has realized over 140 student-created businesses with a launch rate exceeding 30%. Dr. Karl Baehr, Director of Business & Entrepreneurial Studies at Emerson College, was selected as a Top Professor of Entrepreneurship by Fortune Magazine for his work with E3.
This years 8th Annual E3 expo will take place at the end of April and will be held at the Bill Bordy Theater in Boston, MA.
