Classical pianist Vladimir Zaitsev Classical pianist Vladimir Zaitsev The Algonquin Arts Theatre will feature Vladimir Zaitsev, a Russian classical pianist who will perform a compilation of Romantic era favorites. The concert is scheduled for March 13 at 10 a.m. in Manasquan.

With a program titled “Rock Stars of Romanticism,” Zaitsev’s repertoire includes a combination of music from Chopin, Liszt and others.

Born in Kiev, Russia, Zaitsev was introduced to the world of performing arts by his mother, an actress and singer at the local theater.

At 16, he turned down an offer to join the Ukrainian Ballet on Ice Company. He instead entered Kosenko Music College, where he studied piano with Irina Ocheretianaya.

Upon graduating with highest honors from the musical college, Vladimir immigrated to the United States, where he entered Mannes College of Music as a piano student of Nadia Reisenberg. He also continued his piano studies with Alexander Eydelman in New York City. He is a recipient of a number of prestigious awards, including the Julius Katchen Memorial Award, first prize in the Five Towns Music and Arts Foundation Piano Competition, and first prize in the Liederkranz Foundation Piano Competition, among others.

Zaitsev has performed on three continents, including appearances at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall and a number of television and radio appearances. The New York Times described his Town Hall debut as “triumphant.”

A teacher himself, he has mentored numerous finalists in the Algonquin’s annual “Rising Stars” program, which honors classical musicians in high school.
