As a resident of Lawrenceville, I am strongly opposed to the scale of development planned at the corner of Route 1 and Bakers Basin Road.
A zoning variance is sought to allow the building of: A Wawa store with 16 fuel pumps, a McDonald’s, a TD Bank, a new Mrs G TV and Appliance store, and one additional retail building. Residents of this area know that traffic at this intersection is already routinely backed up at peak traffic times. Such high-density development at this site is unacceptable at an intersection that is historically problematic.
Placing such high traffic volume businesses (and a major gas station) at this site would be disastrous, most especially for northbound residents and commuters. Additionally, Lawrenceville already has three gas stations nearby which are not overcrowded.
I urge Lawrenceville residents to attend the zoning board public hearing at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20, in the Municipal Building to voice their opinions on this matter. There will be no going back (if we allow Lawrenceville Associates to over-develop this site) when we find ourselves sitting in traffic every day to get through that Route 1 intersection.
