$1,000 grant seeds Red Bank’s planned Community Garden

RED BANK — Members of the Red Bank Community Garden Committee (RBCG) accepted a $1,000 grant from the Garden Club of New Jersey at the New Jersey Flower & Garden Show, held in February at the New Jersey Convention Center in Edison.

The funds will be used for Red Bank’s first community garden and will be allocated toward initial startup expenses. Some of the funds will help to offset the costs of building materials for the new fence, tools, promotion and educational materials, according to a press release from the committee.

The RBCG, along with local master gardeners, will hold educational seminars for the public about gardening and growing food locally and its impact on the environment.

Information for those interested in becoming involved in the garden community, or purchasing or sponsoring a garden plot is available at www.redbanknj.org under Parks and Recreation, or in person at Red Bank Borough Hall, 90 Monmouth St., Parks and Recreation, 2nd floor, or 732-741- 9532 or 732-403-7924.
