Flemington – Spring Run School at CEA in Flemington is hosting an open house for parents and special needs students on Thursday, April 4th from 4pm to 8pm and a workshop on “Teaching Life Skills to Children and Students with Autism” on Monday, April 8th from 9:30am to 11:00am. Both events will be held at the school which is located at 11 Minneakoning Road, Flemington.
This school year Spring Run School, serving special needs students between the ages of 14 and 21, initiated upgrades to its NJ core curriculum academic and transitional programs. “This year we are providing additional resources and services to students on the autism spectrum and enhancing our services to all special needs students who face greater social and technological challenges as they become adults in an ever more complex world,” commented Principal Paul Semegran. “The open house on April 4th will offer an opportunity to tour the facility and see what makes us different.”
The school now has a daily living skills focus with an Activities of Daily Living (ADL) area. Social skills are another important part of the life skills training offered. A sensory room is also being created to better meet the needs of students with autism spectrum disorders. “I encourage parents and special needs students to come discover what the new Spring Run School has to offer!” added Mr. Semegran.
Spring Run School has teamed up with POAC Autism Services to offer a workshop for parents, teachers and others on “Teaching Life Skills to Children/Students with Autism” on April 8th. The free hands-on event will demonstrate techniques that increase the likelihood of success and decrease prompt dependency. Certificates of attendance for CEU’s will be available. Registration is required and can be completed online at www.poac.net or by calling 908-782-1480 x226.
