ALLENTOWN: Troop honored at annual banquet

ALLENTOWN — Cub Scout Pack 180 was recognized for their efforts throughout the year at the annual Blue and Gold Banquet Feb. 24.
Over 200 supporters attended the banquet, held at the Scottish Rite Hall, Bordentown. The event is traditionally held in February to commemorate the month that scouting began.
Pack 180, led by Cubmaster Michael Fleres and Committee Chair Greta van Noordenburg, is comprised of 80 boys in grades 1 through 5. The group has been sponsored by the Allentown United Methodist Church for over 35 years.
Younger Cub Scouts were individually recognized as they received their rank achievements in a traditional Cub Scout Candle Ceremony.
The Arrowmen from Hunnikick Lodge 79 were on hand to conduct the ceremonial highlight of the afternoon during which the Webelos II Scouts were recognized for having achieved Cub Scouts’ highest award, the Arrow of Light.
The afternoon concluded when these young men ceremoniously crossed over a bridge leaving Cub Scouts behind. They were greeted on the other side by Boy Scouts from New Egypt Troop 9 and Crosswicks Troop 55 where many of them will continue on the path to Eagle, the highest rank in Boy Scouts.
The Pack has several more events scheduled in the upcoming months including a Pack sleepover aboard the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in New York.
In addition, the scouts will perform a service project to plant 200 trees in Upper Freehold Township in honor of Arbor Day.
Other activities include a family camp out at Quail Hill Scout Camp, a Trenton Thunder baseball game after which the scouts get to sleep in the outfield and a Fossil Hunt.
