News of events at Hillsborough Public Library
Local photographer Walter Choroszewski will present vintage views of New Jersey from engravings, paintings, prints and photographs found at museums and the Library of Congress Tues., March 26, at 7 p.m. at the Hillsborough library on South Branch Road.
He’ll discuss the art periods that influenced the art and gives biographical information about artists. He’ll offer a comparative view to his own photography.
• A Rutgers University Extension Service program will show home gardeners how to maximize vegetable harvest and even double or even triple production on Saturday, March 23, at 2 p.m.
• The Friends of the Hillsborough Library have daily book and media sales at the library. DVDs, CDs and hardcover books are only $1. Paperbacks, records, children’s books and magazines are only 25 cents. VHS tapes are free.
During the March Madness Sale, buy one hardcover book and get one free.
• In March, works from the collections of local artists Wayne Mathisen and Bernice Fatto are on display in the foyer.

• Monday Morning Moms (for parents/caregivers) — Different topics of discussion along with recommended resourcesApril 1, at 10 a.m.
• A mixed-gender ESL conversation group, sponsored by Somerset County Literacy Volunteers, meets Mondays, March 25 and April 1, at 7 p.m. You must know basic English. The program runs through May 20.
• Best Books — Yvonne Selander, the library’s readers’ advisory specialist from the Bridgewater branch, will talk in the conference room about the ‘Sci-Fi/Weird Science’ genre. Tues., March 26, at 7 p.m.
• Your Library is Open 24/7! — A librarian will show how to search the catalogue, manage your account, place holds, borrow e-books, music and access county library databases. Thurs., March 28, from 3:30 to 5 p.m.
• Book discussion — First in a series about small business, job searching and career development. Ernesto Sirolli’s “How to Start a Business & Ignite Your Life” provides guidance on how to put together an effective team that allows a business to get off the ground, flourish and grow. Thurs., April 4, at 7 p.m.
• Friday night movie — “Zero Dark Thirty,” rated R and starring Jessica Chastain, will be shown April 5 at 7 p.m.
Here are programs for youngsters. Registration is required.
• Anime Club (grades 8-12) — Hang out with friends and watch anime and discuss the latest manga. Thurs., March 21, 5-7 p.m.
• Movin’ Munchkins (ages 3-6) — A creative movement program for the child and parent/caregiver. A library release/waiver must be signed by a parent. Forms are available at the Children’s Desk. Fri., March 22, at 10 a.m.
• Story and Songs (ages 2-6) —An interactive story and musical activities. Sat., March 23, at 10 a.m.
• Lego Club (grades 1-5) — Hang out with other Lego-maniacs and have fun building together. Sat., March 23, at 3 p.m.
• Lego Buddies (grades 8-12) — Reliable teen volunteers are wanted to provide assistance during Lego Club programs. You must register for each individual session. Volunteers will earn community service hours for attendance. Space limited to four volunteers per session. Sat., March 23, at 2:45 p.m.
• Stories for 4’s, 5’s & 6’s — A fun family storytime on spring on Mon., March 25, and transportation on Mon., April 1. Both are at 1 p.m. No registration required.
• Kindermusik (newborn to 3) — Join Ms. Jenni for music that helps a child develop language, literacy, social and listening skills in a fun, family-friendly setting. Monday, March 25, at 10 a.m.
• Toddler Time for 2’s and 3’s — Introduce the pleasure of books to your child with stories, songs. No registration is required. The topic Tues., March 26, it’s mice. For Tues., April 2, it’s monkeys. Both are at 10 a.m.
• Rhyme Time (newborn to 24 months) — Twenty minutes of nursery rhyme fun. Tuesdays, March 26 and April 2, at 10:30 a.m.
• Early Reader Book Club (grades K-2) – Discuss “Amelia Bedelia Under Construction” by Herman Parish, do some activities and make a craft. Please read the book before the program. Copies will be available at the Children’s Desk. Tues., March 26, at 4 p.m.
• Preschool Book Club (ages 3-5) — Parents and children read books by Audrey and Don Wood and share book-related activities. Wednesday, March 27, at 10 a.m.
• Craft for 4’s, 5’s & 6’s — Celebrate popcorn blossoms by making a craft with your preschool or kindergarten child. Wed., March 27, and Thurs., March 28, both at 10 a.m.
• Teen movie night — On Spring Break week, see “Wreck it Ralph!” on the big screen! Get a sugar rush at our mix-and-match candy bar. Thurs., March 28, at 6 p.m.
