LAMBERTVILLE — On Tuesday, City Council approved an amendment to the existing noise ordinance that will require individuals, companies and utility firms to wait until 9 a.m. Sunday to use vehicles and equipment involved in the construction or demolition of buildings, roads and structures.
The ordinance changes the city’s noise code, which currently allows such work to begin at 7 a.m. on Sundays. Such work will not be allowed now until 9 a.m., except in the case of emergencies.
An emergency would have to be formally declared by the mayor, police director or director of the city’s office of emergency management. Snow plowing is exempt from the proposed ordinance.
IN OTHER BUSINESS, Council adopted a resolution reappointing David Burd, the city’s office of emergency management (OEM) coordinator, for another three years, through the end of 2016.
— Also adopted was a resolution to support the crosswalk on Bridge Street by the towpath.
— Another resolution authorizes the city to sell public items that are no longer needed through the Public Service Online Auction.
— Yet another resolution authorizes the mayor and city clerk to sign a contract with Pitney Bowes, for a postage machine for the city’s Police Department, for a maximum amount of $179 per year.
— City officials reminded residents, who are pet owners, that late fees now apply for registration of pets for licenses, which are required annually under state law. The fee for a spayed animal is $40; for a non-spayed animal, the fee is $43. The late fee of $25 cannot now be waived for any reason, officials said.
— Officials also reminded residents that city law requires all pet owners to clean up after their pets on private or public property. Pets must be leashed when off the owner’s property, and a pet’s owner is responsible for a pet’s conduct. Violations should be reported to the city’s police.
— Landlord registrations are due by April 1. All rental units must be registered with the city. All rental properties with two or more rental units also must register with the State of New Jersey. All landlord registration applications received on or after April 2 will be assessed a $50 late fee. Late fees cannot be waived under any circumstances.
