Lowell Arye, deputy commissioner at the New Jersey Department of Human Services, will give a lecture at Mercer County Community College at noon on Tuesday, April 9, in the Communications Building, room 107. The discussion, “The Baby Boom Tsunami: Implications for Services and Workforce for the Next Generation,” is part of the college’s Spring Distinguished Lecture Series at the West Windsor campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road. The event is free and open to the public.
In his discussion, Arye will discuss the implications of the baby boom generation on the U.S. over the next 30 years. He will provide an overview of the aging U.S. population, in particular in Mercer County, and discuss the implications of the baby boomers on citizen entitlements and long-term services and support structure. He will also talk about how this wave of individuals who are beginning to leave the workforce will provide expanded career opportunities for the next generation.
Arye has more than 30 years experience working in federal and state government, academia, philanthropy and the non-profit sector. His nationally recognized expertise focuses on the nexus between income security, health and long-term services and supports for seniors and people with disabilities.
Today Arye is responsible for two divisions of the Department of Human Services: Family Development and Aging Services. Previously he served as policy advisor on Human Services, Children and Families for N.J. Governor Chris Christie. Before joining state government, Arye served for 14 years as the executive director of the Alliance for the Betterment of Citizens with Disabilities.
Arye holds a master’s degree in Science of Social Administration with a specialization in Gerontology from Case Western Reserve University, Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences in Cleveland, Ohio, and a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Hiram College in Hiram, Ohio.
