The Manville High School’s Future Business Leaders of America chapter participated in the FBLA State Leadership Conference on March 14 and 15 at the Hilton Hotel in East Brunswick.
Nearly 40 members of Chapter 3985 joined co-advisors Frederick McCarrick and Nancy Ostaszewski on the trip. Members who placed in the Central Jersey regional competition were eligible to compete on the state level, where students were tested on various business topics.
Additionally members completed projects for competitions. The Manville FBLA Chapter was awarded numerous prizes, including first place in the Central Region for their “March of Dimes” fundraising, and a Gold Seal Chapter Award of Merit.
Chapter President Ariel Rodriguez placed third for “Mr. Future Business Leader,” and was also awarded “Who’s Who In FBLA.” Vice President Marty Marshalek won second place in computer problem-solving and also received a Gold Member award.
Winners for projects included Allie Puza and Emily Barnes, third place for the FBLA scrapbook: Brielle Formanowski and Courtney Carr, 2nd place for their American Enterprise Project; Leah Alpaugh and Karli Ramirez, third place for the Business Presentation; and Lauren Gruszka, fifth place for Cover Design.
Placing for individual competitive events were Sebastian Wisniowiecki, fourth place Intro to Technology Concepts; Patti Amarilla, fifth place for FBLA Principles & Procedures, and Kristen Schuyler, fifth place for Word Processing II.
Jackie Richter won a Gold Chapter Member Award while Joe Green was awarded an honor for his work on the chapter’s website. Samantha Mooney was rewarded for her work in the field of public relations. David Yodd from Bound Brook Moose Lodge was granted the “Business Person of the Year” award for his continued support of the Manville High School FBLA.
