ROBBINSVILLE: Former NFL star named RHS coach

ROBBINSVILLE — The Robbinsville Township Board of Education unanimously approved the appointment of former NFL star Irving Fryar as the next head football coach at the high school.
The appointment was made at Tuesday’s board meeting.
Mr. Fryar played in the NFL for 17 years for the New England Patriots, Miami Dolphins, Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Redskins, retiring in 2000.
Mr. Fryar, who was also approved by the board as weight room supervisor, takes over for outgoing coach Jason Gray, who was the program’s first head coach since the varsity program was introduced in 2006.
He inherits a team that went 5-5 the previous two seasons and 3-7 in 2010.
According to personnel documents provided at the board meeting, Mr. Fryar’s appointments to head coach and weight room supervisor are effective April 1 and March 27, respectively.
Mr. Fryar made history becoming the first wide receiver to be drafted first overall in the 1984 when the Patriots tagged him with the first selection.
In Super Bowl XX, he scored the Patriots lone touchdown in their blowout loss to the Chicago Bears.
Mr. Fryar was raised in Mount Holly Township and attended high school at Rancocoas Valley Regional High School before attending the University of Nebraska.
