LONG BRANCH — The Jersey Shore Running Club will host the 23rd annual Celtic Tribute 5K benefit run in memory of fallen officers on March 30.
Held on the Long Branch promenade, boardwalk and great lawn overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, the event will honor Long Branch’s fallen officers: Patrolman Herman Emmons, Patrolman William Richards and Sgt. Patrick King.
Proceeds from the 5K run, presented by Long Branch PBA No. 10, benefit the PBA Local 10 Scholarship Fund in Memory of Fallen Officers, which awards scholarships to graduates at Long Branch High School.
This year’s race will also support the New Jersey State PBA Survivor and Welfare Fund.
Last year, the event drew more than 500 participants and raised more than $8,000.
Kids’ races held on the great lawn will follow the 5K.
Amenities include T-shirts for participants, post-race refreshments for all prior to the awards ceremony, raffles and a grandprize drawing. All are invited to a free pasta party at the Celtic Cottage.
Prizes will be drawn randomly and the top 3 runners in the 5K will receive awards.
The 5K Run will begin at 11 a.m., and children’s age-group races will start at approximately 11:45 a.m. Registration will take place the day of the race beginning at 9:30 a.m.
Entry forms are available at several running stores in the area, and can be downloaded from the website www.celtictribute5k.com. Call Race Director Philip Hinck at 732-571-2162 for more information.
