WEST AMWELL — Each year National Park Trust, in conjunction with kidstoparks.org, runs a national school contest/grant writing project.
Classes are invited to choose a local state park to research and then complete a grant proposal for a field trip to that park.
The proposal consists of four components: Promoting a Healthy Lifestyle, Education, Stewardship, and Why Our Class Should Win.
Shelley DiSalvi’s class, at West Amwell Elementary School, had one of the winning submissions and the class was the only winning school from New Jersey.
Ms. DiSalvi’s class chose Washington’s Crossing State Park and researched the many activities and educational opportunities offered.
In computers, each student chose a picture to represent one component of the grant. During art class, they worked with Susan Johnson to create a mural of these pictures. They were glued together to show a collaborative effort.
