Indictment charges Staten Island resident with attempted murder

MANALAPAN — The suspect in a shooting that occurred at a home on Taylors Mills Road, Manalapan, at 11:30 p.m. Aug. 11, 2012, has been indicted on charges of attempted murder, burglary, aggravated assault, aggravated assault by pointing a firearm and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

According to an indictment handed up recently by a Monmouth County grand jury, Robert Dunbar, 35, of Staten Island, N.Y., is facing those charges in connection with his alleged actions inside a home in the Monmouth Heights development.

Following the incident on the night of Aug. 11, Dunbar fled the scene. He surrendered himself at the Manalapan Police Department at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 12.

The indictment states that Dunbar unlawfully entered the home, or “a separately secured or occupied portion thereof,” thereby committing the act of burglary.

A complaint warrant released by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office on Aug. 13 stated that Dunbar used force to take a firearm from an individual identified as L.P. and fired three shots at L.P., striking that individual once in the back.

That alleged action on the part of Dunbar constitutes the charge of attempted murder, according to the indictment.

Published reports have indicated that L.P., the person who was shot, is a male and is an officer with the New York Police Department. L.P. survived the shooting.

The complaint warrant states that an individual identified as D.D. was thrown to the ground by Dunbar while he was punching L.P.

D.D. sustained head and arm injuries, according to the complaint warrant, which was signed by Manalapan Detective Charles Alaimo.

Dunbar’s alleged action against D.D. constitutes the charge of aggravated assault, according to the indictment.

Published reports have indicated that D.D. is a woman, and the indictment indicates that D.D. owns the home on Taylors Mills Road.
