It was another dominating season for the Howell High School girls bowling team. The girls ran their Shore Conference B Central Division winning streak to 91 straight on the way to a fourth consecutive championship (11 in the last 12 years).
That was just the beginning for the Rebels. They went on to win their fourth straight Monmouth County Championship and second straight NJSIAA Central Jersey Group IV title.
The wealth was more spread out for the boys, with Freehold Township High School capturing the Central Jersey Classic and Howell taking the Central Jersey IV sectional title.
Between Howell and Freehold Township, the two schools rule the News Transcript’s 2013 All-Freehold Regional High School District Boys and Girls Bowling Teams.
Howell’s Jamie Kelly, Michelle Gulino, Kristin Natoli and Sarah VanNosdall make up the girls team with the addition of Freehold Township’s Erica Orensky.
For the boys, Jason Stern, Jimmy Tamai and Dylan Pittman of Freehold Township, and Max Stalter and Kyle Manic of Howell make up the district team.
Kelly, a senior, won the overall county championship with a 664 series. Kelly had the B Central Division’s high scratch game, 267, and high series, 712. Her season average was 188. The senior was 13th at the state sectional (582) and qualified for the individual state championship.
Gulino led Howell with a season average of 192. The junior was second to Kelly in the division with a 266 high game and a 692 series. She led Howell at the Shore Conference with a sixth-place showing.
Natoli, a sophomore, was one of the key additions to the lineup this winter. She averaged 179 for the season. She was at her best at the Central Jersey tournament, where she was the team’s leading scorer with a 613, which was good for fourth place and qualified her for the individual state tournament. She rolled her high school career-high of 257 along the way. She also finished third at the county championships. VanNosdall, a junior, brought the consistency to the Rebels’ lineup that allowed them to go through the season undefeated. She averaged 179 for the season and was a solid tournament bowler for Howell.
Orensky has a bright future. The sophomore averaged 182 for the Patriots, helping them finish second behind Howell in the division and at qualifying for the county championships.
Stern won the county title with a high series of 699 and had the district’s high score at the conference championships (644). Stern and teammate Tamai tied for the high average, 212. Stern’s high series was 735, third best in the division. At the Winter Classic, the junior rolled the third-highest game (277) and had a 672 series.
Tamai’s high game of 298 tied for the best of the year in the division. He led the Patriots at the Winter Classic with a 690 series and high game of 268. The sophomore was 16th at the Shore Conference.
Pittman averaged 203 on the season for the Patriots. He had the second-highest series of season in the division, 736, and took second behind Stern at the county championships.
Stalter led the Rebels to the state sectional title with his 681 series, which put him in 12th place and qualified him for the individual state championship. His high game was 297. The senior had a team-high average of 204.
Manick, a junior, averaged 201 for the season. He rolled a 632 series at the state sectional with a high game of 243 that played a key roll in Howell’s triumph.
Student-athletes who have earned All- FRHSD honorable mention recognition for their performances during the 2012-13 season are Dyea Huseyin, Freehold Township, and Leanne Reed, Howell, for the girls. Will Horvath of Howell, Anthony Parrinello of Freehold Township and Ross Rudnicki of Manalapan earned honorable mention for the boys.
