Scouts to sponsor 5K race

ALLENTOWN — Boy Scout Troop 180 of Allentown has announced a new course for its seventh annual Run With Eagles 5K and 1-mile fun run to be held on April 13.

The event is moving from Byron Johnson Park in Allentown to the Cream Ridge Winery, Route 539, Upper Freehold Township.

According to a press release, runners and walkers will start at the corner of Holmes Mill Road and Route 539 and will proceed through Walnford Park before returning to the winery on Polhemustown Road. This is a rural, scenic course in the heart of Upper Freehold’s horse country. Walnford Park lies approximately midway through the course.

Registration will begin at 8 a.m. The fun run will begin at 9 a.m., and the 5K will start at 10 a.m. All preregistered racers will receive a T-shirt and a goody bag, as will same-day registrants while supplies last. The event features prizes to first-, secondand third-place finishers in each age group, refreshments and course water stops.

Runners and walkers can preregister at www.raceforum.com/eagle or download the registration form at www.bestrace.com. Forms are also available at the winery.

Proceeds will benefit Troop 180’s outdoor programs, according to the press release. Troop 180’s 2012 Eagle Scouts and fellow Scouts installed a brick patio and benches in the playground area at the Stone Bridge Middle School and an exercise course in Heritage Park in Allentown.

Scouts complete service projects each year in and around Allentown and will be out in force to clean the course roadsides in preparation for this year’s event. Visit the website at www.eagles5K.com for additional information.
