Bomb threat probe yields arrest of Edison H.S. student

Police: Makeshift explosive devices confiscated from teen’s home

EDISON — The police investigation into four bomb threats at Edison High School yielded the arrest of a 16-year-old male student of the school, who was charged Monday with possession of explosive devices, police announced.

However, according to a police statement, authorities do not believe that a connection can be drawn between the bomb threats and the arrest.

“No plans have been determined on why he built these or whether he had any sort of plan,” Edison police Sgt. Robert Dudash told the Sentinel. “That’s obviously being looked at.”

Headed by Edison police Detective Sean Forker, the investigation turned up information that led detectives to search a Harmon Road residence around 6 p.m. Sunday after receiving consent from an adult there.

Along with makeshift devices containing gunpowder and fuses, the detectives found fireworks and shotgun shells, according to police. All the items were collected as evidence without incident.

Police interviewed the teen, who was accompanied by an adult, Monday morning. After being charged, he was released to a family member pending disposition of the case. Police did not release the teen’s identity.

Dudash said the investigation into the bomb threats at the high school is ongoing.
