BORDENTOWN CITY — Two friends attending St. Mary School established Do It Duo for Pets in wake of Superstorm Sandy.
And since the organization’s November 2012 inception, founders Alexandra Dompier, 10, and Lucy Miles, 11, are keeping busy.
On May 15 Do It Duo for Pets will be presented with special recognition by the Salvation Army at its New Jersey Divisional Headquarters. It is being presented by John Smith who runs the Ortley Beach relief center and Brenda Beavers of the Salvation Army.
To date the duo has delivered more than three tons of food and supplies to New Jersey shelters and food pantries as well as those in need.
The girls have also donated more than $3,000 in cash to various organizations.
They recently became New Jersey chapter presidents of Kids Against Animal Cruelty — an organization started by teen actor, Lou Wegner, to advocate and spread awareness about urgent kills and the necessity for adoption.
The pair, both fifth graders, met at St. Mary School in pre-school.
They were recently recognized for their work at the Lakewood Blueclaws as part of its 70 Sandy Ovations honoring those individuals and organizations who have assisted the shore post-Superstorm Sandy.
The duo continues to collect food and supplies through PayPal and an Amazon wish list.
The items collected go to restock the group’s two pet food pantries — one with the Salvation Army and another with Catholic Charities.
