Refutes letter writer’s opinion of president

I could not stand by without a response to an opinion voiced by Jacquelin Duffy in the Letters to the Editor section of the April 11 Suburban (“Use of Children for Propaganda Is Quite Depressing”). She likened President Barack Obama to the trio of Hitler, Stalin and Mao Tse Tung.

Obama ran and won his office twice against two Republicans, despite numerous falsehoods promulgated by the Republican Party. Ms. Duffy, where were you when the Bush/Cheney combine declared two unnecessary wars, looking for some weapons of mass destruction (which have yet to turn up) and costing many thousands of American lives and many thousands of returning crippled veterans? They turned a huge surplus left by President Bill Clinton into a $3 trillion debt.

It is nice to live in a country that values freedom of speech, enabling people like you to express your thoughts. Surely, you must realize that no one was forced to vote for Obama. It is well-documented that since day one of the first Obama election, the GOP vowed to be an obstructionist party and destroy the president. The record will show that Republican Party members voted down the president’s proposals, driving the United States to the brink of bankruptcy.

There is nothing wrong with rifle clubs. You don’t need an assault weapon for that. Intelligent people do not believe their weapons will be confiscated. The National Rifle Association (NRA), which many believe to be controlled by gun dealers, would have you believe otherwise.

Isn’t it nice, Ms. Duffy, to live in a country where even opinions like yours can be published?
