South River man charged with bank robbery in Saddle Brook

A South River man made his initial appearance in federal court on April 29 after being charged with a bank robbery last month.

Jorge Rodriguez, 45, allegedly approached the customer counter at a TD Bank in Saddle Brook on April 19, brandishing what appeared to be a handgun in the direction of the teller, according to U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman’s office.

He reportedly handed the teller a paper shopping bag, instructing her to put money into the bag or else he would shoot her, the report said.

The suspect was wearing a baseball cap and glasses and had what appeared to be long hair and facial hair, according to Fishman’s office. Rodriguez was charged later that same day in a nearby residential neighborhood, and authorities said he was in possession of cash, a BB pistol, a baseball cap, a wig and fake facial hair.

Rodriguez was charged with one count of bank robbery.
