The weather could not have been better Saturday for the first annual girls’ softball fundraising tournament for breast cancer awareness.
Four teams participated including J.P. Stevens, Hamilton West, Carteret and South Brunswick.
Proceeds for the event went to the Amy Foundation, which is an organization that raises money to pay for mammograms for early cancer detection in uninsured and under insured women.
Head Coach Heather Wells commented that it was a great start for a good cause and that the event raised $1,700.
She said many local business donated gift certificates for a raffle, and $600 was raised by a car wash at South Brunswick High School.
The Vikings faced J.P. Stevens in the final game, losing 4-3.
