Area Motorcyclists Staging “Roar To Restore the Shore” Benefit Motorcycle Run and Rally In Conjunction With Brick Township VFW Post
Brick, NJ. May 6, 2013. At 1:00 PM, May 18, 2013, a 66-mile motorcycle run will begin in Keyport, NJ, and wind its way south through areas ravaged in October by Hurricane Sandy. The run, timed to coincide with Armed Forces Day, will end at the VFW Post 8867 at 373 Adamston Road in Brick–a major staging area for relief efforts in the weeks immediately following the storm–with a Rally featuring vendors, dealers, music and food. Riders and non-riders alike can take part in the festivities at the VFW.
Roar to Restore the Shore is the brainchild of local residents whose families suffered greatly from the effects of the hurricane. Working with the VFW and other local bikers, they put together a charity event to help others along the Jersey Shore in their continuing recovery efforts. “You heard Sandy roar this past October, now hear us roar to reclaim our shore,” was the phrase that brought the ride to life the first time the group met to discuss the ride. All net proceeds from the run and rally will go to Mary Pat Christie’s Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund and the Brick Township Hurricane Sandy Fund. The latter aids those of Brick who suffered most.
Riders will assemble beginning at 11:00AM on Saturday, May 18 at the waterfront parking lot on American Legion Drive in Keyport. At 1:00PM the ride will leave for a tour of storm-damaged areas of the Bayshore area before taking the Garden State Parkway south, exiting for a ride down Route 18 south. The ride will follow the storm’s path from Point Pleasant to Seaside before turning north again and crossing the iconic Mantoloking Road Bridge before ending at the VFW Post in Brick. Local bands and vendors will provide the backdrop for the Rally which will begin at 4:00PM.
Riders and passengers will receive a patch commemorating the ride as part of their entrance fee ($20 per rider, $15 per passenger). Non-riders are invited to attend the Rally in Brick for an entrance fee of $10.
