POLICE BLOTTER: Week of May 9, 2013

   The owner of High Quality Motors in Wilmington, Delaware, came into headquarters at 10 a.m. April 29 to report losing a Delaware car dealer plate while at Adesa Auctions on April 26.
   A South Main Street resident of Manville came to headquarters at 6:56 p.m. April 29 to report damage to his 2009 Nissan Maxima while parked in the Marketplace lot.
   Patrolman Joseph Buda confirmed damage to the driver’s door handle and a broken windshield. The man estimated the damage at $800.
   Sgt. Jeffery Petrone met with two people from a LaRouche political action committee at 10 a.m. April 30 regarding a protest movement at the corner of Brooks Boulevard and North Main Street.
   They were told not to block the sidewalk or attach anything to existing signs.
   An alarm company reported an activated burglar alarm from the bedroom of a South 14th Avenue home at 1:57 p.m. April 30.
   Police found someone at home, and the residence was checked. Police said the alarm may have been activated by cats.
   A South 18th Avenue caller reported finding damage to his garden hose and a newspaper thrown into his gutter at 4:22 p.m. April 30.
   Police confirmed the newspaper was there, and the incident was put on the record.
   A Bridgewater woman came to headquarters at 11 p.m. April 30 with a North Main Street man, seeking advice about YouTube videos posted of him singing karaoke in area bars.
   Earlier that afternoon, a woman from Somerset County Social Services came with the same man to headquarters to ask police to talk to him about giving away money.
   A Delaware man came to headquarters at 2:38 p.m. May 1 to report losing a driver’s license plate at Adesa on Nov. 7. He wanted it on the record.
   A North Main Street man reported the screen door to the rectory of Christ the King Church was lying on the front porch at 10:07 p.m. May 1.
   Police walked through the building and found nothing amiss.
   An incoherent Manville man was transported to Somerset Medical Center at 10:43 p.m. May 1 from Northside Lounge on Brooks Boulevard.
   Lt. John Crater reported at 3:16 p.m. May 2 that he was investigating a burglary and theft of checks from a North 20th Avenue residence.
   At 12:43 a.m. May 3, a South Main Street apartment resident reported the theft of items, including an Apple iPad2, a Dell laptop computer and one Android tablet, with a total value of $1,598.
   Patrolman John Granahan is investigating.
   A school bus driver asked for police help with two young boys who were being unruly at 12:57 p.m. May 3.
   A North 4th Avenue man came to headquarters at 10:50 p.m. May 3 to report his daughter lost her iPhone4, valued at $200, last seen at about 5:10 p.m. at their residence.
   He had canceled service and was advised a call was made 6:32 p.m. It was documented for the record.
   A caller at 10:45 p.m. May 3 reported that a man in black pants and grey shirt and a woman in black pants and a black sweatshirt had shoplifted from QuickChek and were fleeing on foot up Brooks Boulevard.
   Patrols checked the area. The caller said the two were acting suspiciously and was unable to confirm if candy was taken from the store.
   At 12:31 p.m. May 4, a caller from Cyburts Liquors on South Main Street reported two men took, without paying, two 750 milliliter bottles of wine that were on the counter near the register when they left with their purchase.
   The value of the wine was put at $12.18.
   Security personnel at Walmart asked for police assistance at 7:30 p.m. May 4 about an employee stealing items valued at $622.70.
   Shaun Woods, 26, of Manville, was charged with theft. The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office was contacted and downgraded charges to shoplifting. He was charged on a summons and released.
   A Washington Avenue woman said a neighbor rode his bicycle through her mulch bed at 9:56 a.m. May 4.
   Patrolman Michael Peterson spoke with her and tried to speak with the accused with no results.
   A Louise Drive caller reported at 3:24 p.m. May 5 that sometime between 3 and 7 a.m., her 2004 Honda Civic was damaged while parked in her driveway.
   Police confirmed the passenger door handle was broken off. Damage was estimated at $150.
   A caller reported someone was carrying a small child on their lap while riding a go-kart on roads around Memorial Park at 3:48 p.m. May 5.
   Sgt. Jeffery Petrone found the vehicle in the yard of a house at West Camplain and South 15th Avenue and advised the homeowner.
   At 7:24 p.m. May 5, a business owner reported that a white Cadillac truck, towing a trailer, pulled behind the business about 30 minutes earlier and removed an old metal scaffolding, valued at $500.
   His grandson also saw the incident and thought they might have permission.
   Patrols investigated.
