Sayreville is among four Middlesex County municipalities that will receive grants for local transportation infrastructure improvements.
Carteret, Perth Amboy, Woodbridge and Sayreville will receive a combined $1.4 million in grants through the state’s Local Aid program, according to a press release from Sen. Joseph F. Vitale, Assemblyman John S. Wisniewski and Assemblyman Craig J. Coughlin.
Specifically, Carteret will receive $368,850; Perth Amboy, $379,744; Woodbridge, $315,610; and Sayreville, $360,610. Sayreville will use the funds to continue its ongoing overhaul of Ernston Road. Woodbridge will mill and resurface Old Road in the Sewaren section of the township.
Under the Local Aid grant program, each county is apportioned a share of the total funding based on population and the number of local centerline miles. Municipalities compete for portions of their county’s share. The state Department of Transportation provides 75 percent of the grant amount when a town awards a contract and the remaining 25 percent upon completion of the project.
