Mr. Reed, 88, of Lakewood, formerly of Freehold, died April 23, 2013, at Ocean Medical Center, Brick Township. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and Korea, retiring after 21 years of service with the rank of master sergeant. He was then employed by the U.S. Post Office in Farmingdale and by the Monmouth County Park System. He was predeceased by four brothers, Sherman, Eden, Sylvester and Harry Reed; and a sister, Mae Barkalow. Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Maude L. Reed; two sons and daughters-in-law, Walter M. Reed Jr. and Barbara of Point Pleasant, and Steven A. and Shelly Reed of Brick Township; a daughter, Susan L. Reed of Lakewood; two grandsons; and two great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township, followed by interment at Adelphia Cemetery.
