HILLSBOROUGH: VoTech students win gold for career skills

Hillsborough youngsters eligible to compete in Kansas City

   Somerset County Vocational & Technical High School students recently competed against other career and technical education students at the New Jersey SkillsUSA Championships.
   Out of the 82 SCVTHS students who competed, 46 received medals.
   Thirty SVT gold medal winners are eligible to test their skills in Kansas City on June 24-28. Nearly 6,000 career and technical education students will showcase talents and compete in 98 trade, technical and leadership fields. Contests are run with the help of industry, trade associations and labor organizations.
   From SCVTHS, students earning gold medals were:
   • Abhishek Shrinet of South Bound Brook, Apurva Swapnil of Hillsborough and Shawn Young of Martinsville in the Career Pathways Showcase of Natural Resources, Agriculture and Food.
   • Samyak Gupta of Flemington, Suraj Patel of Somerville, and Rohit Rustagi of Hillsborough in Career Pathways Showcase: Science, Technology and Math.
   • Masood Karimi of Somerset, Martyn Megaloudis of North Plainfield, and Shanaya Shah of Hillsborough in Career Pathways Showcase: Business Management & Technology.
   • Noah Alsamadisi of Bridgewater, Soham Shah of Hillsborough, Jean-Pierre Jacob of North Plainfield, Madeline Kestenbaum of Branchburg, Daniel Marcinek of Green Brook (Alternates: Katie Furman of Flemington and Alex Shu of Somerset) in Quiz Bowl.
   Silver awards were won by Devon Sixt of Hillsborough in welding, and Claire Foster of Flemington, Alina Lou of Hillsborough and Mitali Shah of Hillsborough in the Career Pathways Showcase, “Health Services.”
   Bronze awards were won by Andrew Kerrigan of Hillsborough in Medical Math, and Matthew Calapatia of Hillsborough, Jonathan Garaffa of Skillman and Muiz Qadeer of Bridgewater in the Career Pathways Showcase, “Arts & Communication.”
