The sixth annual Metuchen Junebug Artfest is here, and planners and participants are abuzz with excitement.
Sponsored by the Metuchen Area Chamber of Commerce and Metuchen Arts Council, this year’s Junebug Artfest will run 6-10 p.m. June 7, 14, 21 and 28 on Main Street.
The unveiling of the 2013 original Junebug ArtFest sculpture, created by former chairperson Linda LaStella, will take place on opening night at 6 p.m. June 7 outside the Metuchen Savings Bank office at 429 Main St.
The event will feature local artists who showcase a wide spectrum of finished pieces and live performances. Interactive activities throughout the festival provide visitors an opportunity to explore their artistic inclinations. This year’s Junebug ArtFest will feature many returning artists and new participants, including outstanding glasswork artists, renowned painters, illustrators, popular photographers and jewelry makers.
A drum circle performance with more than 100 drums will take place at 6:30 p.m. June 7 at the Metuchen Senior Center, as well as special performances each night of the Junebug Artfest. A plethora of jazz musicians, rock performers and boy bands will pave the way for live dance performances and open mic sessions at various locations. Balloon makers and chalk walks will add to the attractions. Volunteer hosts in Junebug T-shirts will be handing out event schedules throughout each night.
The festival grows each year, with a variety of artists and visitors come from all across central New Jersey and neighboring states.
