PLUMSTED — The Plumsted Township Board of Education has tapped Gene Mosley to serve as the next principal of New Egypt High School.
The longtime Dunellen High School Principal was appointed at the May 29 meeting effective July 1 at an annual salary of $130,850, as set by the collective bargaining agreement with the Plumsted Township Administrators Association.
Per the board’s resolution, the hire is pending the successful completion of the application process, set forth by Superintendent Karen Jones, in addition to criminal history clearance in accordance with state law.

“My hope is that Mr. Carroll and Mr. Mosley together would make a dynamic team for our district to move our high school forward,” Board member Sandra Soles told Mr. Mosley. “Our children’s success in the high school depends both on you and Mr. Carroll’s success as well.”
Dr. Jones thanked the committee, which was composed of parents, teachers and administrators, for their work in what she referred to as a “grueling process.”
During the public comment portion, Herb Marinari, member of the Township Committee ýPage=001 Column=002 OK,0000.00þ and a former board of education member, thanked the selection committee.
“That’s an extremely difficult and hard decision especially when you have an internal candidate,” Mr. Marinari said, referring to Mr. Carroll. “The two of these gentlemen together is going to make this the best high school we’ve ever had as far as administrative control and what’s happening with our students.”
He added whatever needs to be done to keep Mr. Carroll employed with the district should be pursued.
Following the meeting, Mr. Mosley, who spent seven years as principal Dunellen, said he was excited for the opportunity to serve students ýPage=001 Column=003 OK,0001.08þ at NEHS.
“I’m close by and I’ve been able to watch this school as it’s grown and developed. It’s a school with a lot of opportunity and a lot of potential to stand among the very best schools,” said Mr. Mosley, a Robbinsville resident.
“I think we have the resources in terms of personnel, in terms of students, in terms of family support and I want to be a part of that,” he added. “I’m excited by it.”
He said is goal is to not only raise the bar with reýPage=005 Column=004 OK,0025.01þ gards to academics, but in arts and sports as well.
“I want (the students) to feel as though they can compete with the best students statewide and that’s what we want to do,” he said.
Prior to his tenure in Dunellen, Mr. Mosley served as assistant principal and athletic director for South Amboy Middle High School for two years.
In addition, he served as supervisor of English, social studies and foreign language at Timber Creek Regional High School in Camden County.
ýPage=005 Column=005 OK,0025.01þ Prior to his administrative career he taught at Princeton High School and Bound Brook High School for six and nine years, respectively.
After the meeting Board member Christopher Probasco, the lone dissenter against the appointment, emphasized his vote was not a lack of confidence in Mr. Mosley, but the result of parents, teachers and students endorsing Mr. Carroll for the position.
“They’re crying out for continuity and Rich has been the continuity here,” Mr. Probasco said, agreeing with othýPage=005 Column=006 OK,0025.01þ er board members that the two could make a formidable administrative team.
Tom Farrell, the outgoing principal, served until April 15, according to district officials, having been named superintendent of the West Long Branch and Shore Regional School Districts. The board appointed Dr. Jeanette Baubles to the post on an interim basis in April.
Under the terms of the appointment, which was made at the April 10 board meeting, Dr. Baubles will receive $100 per day in addition to her contracted salary from April 16 until June 19.
