Howell High School’s Dawson Jones shot an even-par 72 at the Ike Sectional Qualifier at Trump National in Colts Neck on May 28 to win medalist honors.
Jones, competing for MGA eClub N.J., led the field of 156 players, 20 of whom qualified for the Ike Championship at Wykagyl Country Club in New Rochelle, N.Y., coming up from June 24-25.
This was the fifth and final Ike Sectional Qualifier.
Jones, a sophomore at Howell, recently finished second at the NJSIAA Tournament of Champions, carding a 3-under-par 69 at the Hopewell Valley Golf Club. Earlier, the Rebels’ golfer won his second straight Central/South Jersey state sectional crown.
Manalapan’s Rachel Breton was called up by the Sky Blue FC of the National Women’s Soccer League. Breton was a member of Sky Blue FC’s reserve team before the club elevated her for the June 1 game against the Boston Breakers at Rutgers University’s Yurcak Field, Sky Blue’s home pitch.
Breton starred at Freehold Township High School before playing her college soccer at Rutgers University. She is a defender/forward.

The Manalapan Touchdown Club’s 12th annual golf outing to benefit Manalapan High School football will be held on July 17 at the Mercer Oaks Golf Course, Princeton Junction. Tee time is 11:30 a.m.
The cost is $165 and includes greens fees and carts, driving range, scramble format, longest drive contest, hole-in-one prize, closest to the pin contest, hot buffet lunch, pre-dinner hors d’oeuvres, dinner banquet, beverages, and dessert and prizes. Dinner only is $65.

The U.S. women’s national soccer team will play a friendly match against the Korea Republic at Red Bull Arena in Harrison on June 20. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m.
The friendly game will be broadcast live on the NBC Sports Network. Fans will be able to follow the game on ussoccer.com’s MatchTracker and on Twitter at ussoccer_ wnt.

The matches against the Korea Republic mark the first domestic friendlies during the inaugural National Women’s Soccer League season and the first against the South Koreans since three matches were played in November 2008 following the United States’ Olympic gold medal triumph in Beijing, China.
The U.S. team is 6-0-2 in 2013. The national team returns to Red Bull Arena for its second match at the venue following a 1-0 victory against Mexico on June 5, 2011, in the final game before the women’s World Cup.
The U.S. women have played the Korea Republic just six times in its history and just three times in the new millennium. The U.S. is 5-0-1 all-time against the Korea Republic, outscoring them 22-2.
The Brick Township Soccer Association U11 Boys Brick Bandits are holding open travel tryouts for the fall 2013 season. Boys born between Aug. 1, 2002, and July 31, 2003, are eligible to compete.
The tryouts will be held on June 5 at Pinewood Park, Route 88 East in Brick from 6:30-8 p.m.
